World leading sustainability research

Keele is driving forward world-leading research in sustainability as part of the Smart Energy Network Demonstrator (SEND) and is the largest project of its kind in Europe. The SEND project is part-funded through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). The project’s goal is to foster research and innovation partnerships with local, regional, and international organisations in order to produce innovative goods, services, and information that will encourage sustainable economic growth.

Empowering local business

Keele’s Innovation Centre 6 building includes a state-of-the-art dedicated coworking lounge, a specialised location for sole proprietors or owners of small businesses. The well-established business community consists of thriving small and medium-sized businesses as well as major, well-known global corporations.

THE CHALLENGE

Socially Grown were tasked with showcasing some of the significant research initiatives in the field of sustainability that have involved numerous local, regional, and national enterprises and corporations. The objective was to highlight the significant efforts being made to promote sustainable economic growth in the Midlands and beyond, as well as highlight how well ERDF money works to advance sustainable development on a worldwide scale.

In order to strengthen the university’s already prestigious reputation as a hub for sustainable growth and collaboration among Staffordshire’s rising business contingent, Socially Grown were also challenged with empowering local entrepreneurs and small businesses to utilise the cutting-edge Coworking lounge located on campus, by showcasing its facilities, academic support and rich productivity benefits.

THE SOLUTION

IC6 Coworking Lounge campaign

We ran a six-week campaign to reach micro businesses in Staffordshire, ideally those that were working from a home address and looking to expand, or those who needed a professional space to meet clients. According to our research, 90% of the SMEs in Staffordshire are micro businesses and eligible to apply for a coworking space at IC6 in Keele.

In this campaign we would leverage high quality video testimonial footage to drive traffic to a dedicated landing page and encourage applications through the built-in form.

SEND Project campaign

We ran a multimedia campaign with a documentary-style video that featured business owners who had received support from the SEND programme, along with Keele University researchers who were recruited by the University to participate in this ground-breaking research.

Videos were recorded on location at the organisation’s facilities to help illustrate the new capabilities made possible by ERDF financing and SEND research. The case examples have been used by Keele and the companies involved to help disseminate the word about sustainable development in both written and visual form.
